Mad Night

Yesterday was Jayden's appointment to see his paediatriacian for his last Hep. B jab. While we were speaking to his paed, he advised us to take up the pneumococcal jab as well, after much discussion, we decided to go ahead with it. Pneumococcal is pretty dangerous amongst both adults and kids, read more about here. I asked him why wasn't it a compulsory jab in Malaysia? He said it's all about money over here. In US, the pneumococcal vaccination is compulsory for all kids.

Anyway, around 4.30pm, Jayden developed a slight fever, his body was feverish and warm and fussy too, temp. reading around 37.5 d.c. We gave him Parmol right away, after that the fever went down slightly. And around 8.30pm, his fever came back, we gave Parmol again. He was so drowsy around 9pm and slept off. But not for long, he woke up around 9pm+ and was crying... he fever was quite high then, almost 38.2d d.c. We quickly sponged him and applied the cooling pad. We were both up monitoring him and making him comfortable. He was cranky every now and then, but still able to play and babble. Around 1am, we all went to sleep together, we were so tired!

At 4.15am, Jayden woke up crying, and we checked his temperature, it was almost 39 d.c!!! I was worried cos anything above 38.5 d.c., we should seek medical attention. I told my hubby better not wait anymore, what if it goes higher? So we rushed to SJMC, that was the nearest medical assistance we knew that was 24 hrs. Anyway, it was just a 5 mins drive. Nurse sponged him down and gave him suppository through his rectum to lower his temperature. He was screaming the whole time cos he didn't like cold water all over his body...

Doctor said it might the following possibilities that caused the fever:
-2 vaccinations that day
-Jayden wasn't feeling very well last few days, weaker immune system
-might be a underlying virul infection

Doctor advised to:
-drink more water (which Jayden doesn't like very much)
-dilute his milk, that will help his phlegm. And if he gets hungry faster, give him diluted milk to make sure there are more fluids in his body.
-if fever don't go down today, to see paed.

We came home at 5.30am this morning and we were all so exhausted... 3 of us hit the sacks immediately.

This morning, Jayden was much better, fever went down and he was back to his old smiling and cheeky self. Will have to monitor him today.

oh yes.. I experienced the same when gave chloe pcv jab + some other jab together last time which cause her to have high fever... thank god that was under control...

after that lesson, I have NEVER put her on more than 1 vaccination since then & she is doing WELL!!!

some recommended to give different jab 2 weeks apart.. ;)

hope jayden is getting better by now.

Your paed should know not to administrate 2 jab at a time...also because is he concern of the jab money?? hahaha...

Well, you see in US there are too many vac need for a child, can u believe they need up to 46 jab till 6 years old...we opt try not to give Terry too many of those not recommended one..to lower down to possible in getting Autism..

My boy is actually highly recommended to take pneumococcal, but we are not let him take that, let his body immune system build the antibody. So much to say our nutritionist said the more a child get vaccinated the highest percentage the child will get the disease...

Hai..so hard...

Luckily your boy is getting better, me too will prepare suppository at home just in case. Coz there is no nearby international clinic, just local hospital. There was once Angela got a sudden fever, I went there & the doctor want little Angela to go for dripping & the needle suppose to put on her head! I was so heart pain, I cried together with her the moment the needle poke through(Its common in China for doctor to request patient for dripping). So from that incident I dare not bring my kids to the local hospital I bring them to the international hospital to see paed.

Poor boy. Is he feeling much better now? I've given Ashton the Pneumococal jab as well.. Maybe now it's virus season coz lots of kids falling ill... Do take care of Jayden, and yourselves too.. Last time Ashton was also rushed to the hospital emergency unit at midnite coz his temperature rose to 38.5 degrees. Nurses sponged him as well.

It is good to have the suppository at home just in case Kristie. That's very fast in relieving the fever.

It's good that Jayden never wanna remove the cooling pad. Ashton cried when I put the pad on him!

My paed wud not recommend taking any vac if the kid's not feeling vy well. Maybe becoz the % of getting fvr is low, that's y ur paed went ahead with both jabs. Good thing he's still his normal active self.
Yeah, must keep some suppositories at home. It's vy useful to bring down hi fvr, esp in the middle of the nite.
